Near‑Real‑Time Energy System Operation

AI‑Enabled Management for Luxembourg’s Energy Transition

What is the Near‑Real‑Time Energy System Operation flagship?

The objective of this national initiative is to digitalize and operate Luxembourg’s multi‑energy system (electricity, gas, heat, hydrogen) in near real time using AI, advanced computing, data spaces and bidirectional communication.

How does it help Luxembourg?

It optimizes grid stability, integrates renewables, reduces operational costs, enables predictive maintenance, dynamic tariffs and strengthens resilience.

Why does it matter?

Growing system complexity - volatility, congestion, decentralization - requires real‑time decision‑making. Without AI‑driven capabilities, inefficiencies and costs would rise, limiting flexibility and climate‑target progress.

What’s next?

Until 2030, the project will build data flows, AI tools, communication infrastructure, sandbox testing and ecosystem knowledge sharing, placing Luxembourg at the forefront of digitalized energy systems.
